RESERVE THE MULTICULTURAL CENTER AND LGBTQ+ PRIDE CENTER
The Multicultural Center and LGBTQ+ Pride Center can be reserved by UC Merced student organizations between 5-8pm Monday-Friday. All reservations must support the mission, pillars, and definitions of social justice supported by the Office of Social Justice Initiatives and Identity Programs:
Mission:
With a focus on social justice, coalition building, education/training, collective healing and student agency, the Office of Social Justice Initiatives & Identity Programs seeks to serve the UC Merced community and aspires to cultivate, explore, provide opportunities for interactions, connections – a sense of belonging, and gain knowledge to be equipped and prepared to thrive in a diverse global society.

Social Justice:
Social Justice is both a process and a goal. “The goal of Social Justice educations is full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs. Social Justice includes a vision of society that is equitable and all members are physically and psychologically safe and secure.”
The process of attaining the goal of social justice, we believe, should also be democratic and participatory, inclusive and affirming of human agency and human capabilities for working collaboratively to create change.

Reservation Requirements
- All reservations must be submitted online at least SIX (6) weeks before the event is proposed to take place.
- Programs/Events must align with the at least TWO (2) of pillars (social justice education & training, coalition building, collective healing and/or scholar advocacy)
- The space(s) must be reserved with a half hour set up before and half hour tear down after event/meeting/conference/performance/guest speaker
Reservation Guidelines
The Cultural Centers are spaces in which historically and continually marginalized communities and their intersectional identities as people of color, womxn, income-insecure, LGBTQ+, differently abled-bodied, international, documented status, immigrant, non-traditional students, etc. can feel safe expressing themselves, their lived experiences, knowledges, without being the target of oppression. We commit to remaining conscious of our own positionality in this space.
If you are wishing to reserve the any of the Cultural Centers, your UC Merced Student Organization must adhere to the Office of Social Justice Initiatives and Identity Programs values, objective, the definition of social justice as a process and goal, the full guidelines of the Center(s), sections listed below. Responsibilities of Student Organization
UC Merced Student Organization will be responsible for:
- Providing all presentation equipment needs including computer, VGA/HDMI cables, adapters, audio cable
- Returning the space to its original layout, see layout posted by the door
- Removing trash that accumulated during the reservation
- Any major damages that result from the reservation or the participants attending the program/event
- Costs for additional chairs/tables needed for reservation
The Cultural Center’s are not responsible for any stolen property during UC Merced Student Organization Events.
